Encouraged by the AAP’s performance in the recent civic elections, party chief Arvind Kejriwal has already set his sights on the 2022 Gujarat assembly elections.
Kejriwal, who arrived in Surat on Friday, said that the AAP will seek the votes of the people of the state in the upcoming assembly elections based on the performance of the 27 newly elected party corporations in the city.
Polls were conducted on Sunday of six civic bodies in Gujarat, including in Surat. While the BJP retained power in the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) by winning 93 seats, the AAP won the remaining 27 seats. Congress failed to win a single seat.
During his speech to party corporations in Surat, Mr. Kejriwal said: “The people of Gujarat are watching you with great hope. In our first attempt, the AAP won 28 Assembly seats in Delhi and came to power. The people trusted us because they knew we are true patriots as we were associated with the Anna Hazare turmoil. “
Arvind Kejriwal said that the AAP will now focus on the 2022 elections in Gujarat.
“In the 49 days of our government, we did a lot of work ‘for the people’. As a result, the people of Delhi gave us 67 seats in the second election.
