New Delhi:
Delhi’s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s security cover remains intact with 63 people assigned to guard him, Delhi police said on Thursday, refuting reports claiming that Party leader Aam Aadmi’s protection had been lowered.
“Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has Z-Plus security from Delhi Police, comprising pilot, escort, escort team, house guard, observer, search and pat-down personnel, etc. CRPF,” said the police spokesman, Chinmay Biswal.
“The security coverage provided to him remains unchanged and there has been no reduction in the number of personnel provided to him. Four policemen have been replaced by four other policemen for administrative reasons. Security rules in the ‘yellow book “That is followed say this is a normal procedure. Z-Plus security remains intact,” he added.
The statement came after media reports citing anonymous AAP government sources claimed that a day before Kejriwal’s roadshow in Surat Gujarat, their security coverage had been reduced.
The Delhi Police report to the BJP-led central government and not the Kejriwal administration, a distinction that has led to several clashes during his six-year tenure that began when he rejected security coverage as a denunciation of VIP culture. .
“The development at the behest of the BJP leadership came two days after the impressive performance of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Gujarat civic body polls,” a source told the PTI news agency.
The number of Delhi police commandos at Kejriwal security has now been reduced from six to two, the sources alleged.
Aam Aadmi Party spokesman Saurabh Bhardwaj demanded “the reasons” behind the “petty decision.” “The MHA has withdrawn four commandos of the Arvind Kejriwal security police. It is sad and regrettable that the Center could compromise someone’s security in this way,” he said.
He said Kejriwal was attacked several times in the past and yet he has a security cover comprising only six police commandos, which is negligible compared to other top ministers or central government ministers.
Bhardwaj said the move comes two days after the AAP’s “great” performance in the Gujarat civic body polls, traditionally dominated by the BJP.
The AAP has won 27 seats at the municipal polls in Surat, where the party’s convenor will attend a tour on Friday. Kejriwal had called the party’s success in Gujarat the beginning of a new policy in the state.
