PM Modi in West Bengal, Assam Live Updates: Addressing a public meeting, Prime Minister Narendra said that the enthusiasm and energy of the crowd is sending a message from Calcutta to Delhi. “Now West Bengal has settled on ‘poriborton’ (change),” he said.

Modi is in Bengal to inaugurate the extension of the Metro Railway from Noapara to Dakshineswar and mark the first service facilitating access to the Kali temples in Kalighat and Dakshineshwar, third line between Kalaikunda and Jhargham.

It will also dedicate the duplication of Azimganj to the Khargrhat Road section, a part of the Howrah-Bandel-Azimganj station and the fourth line between Dankuni and Baruipara of the Howrah-Bardhaman Chord Line and the third line between Rasulpur and Magra.

Earlier today in Assam, the prime minister accused previous governments of neglecting the state and the northeast and reaffirmed his commitment to the development of the region.

“Those who ruled for decades since Independence believed that Dispur was too far from Delhi. ‘Dilli ab door nahi aapke darwaaze par hai“(Delhi is not far now, it is at your doorstep,” he said at a mass gathering after dedicating himself to the people, inaugurating and laying the foundation for a large number of projects worth more than Rs 3,300 crore.

Modi also said that he will visit Assam and other states linked to the polls as many times as possible before the elections are announced, probably in the first week of March.

This will be Prime Minister Modi’s third visit to Bengal in a span of weeks and before the dates of the crucial assembly elections in the state are announced.

According to sources, the prime minister will arrive from Assam on Monday and will hold a public meeting in Chuchura followed by an official program. Preparations are underway on the Chuchura Dunlop grounds for the public meeting which will be attended by state leaders of the BJP and workers from the Hooghly district.

Modi is likely to inaugurate the 4.1 km extension of the North-South metro to Dakshineshwar station, in addition to other projects. However, a final decision has yet to be made on whether to open the project remotely from Hooghly or visit Dakshineshwar, the sources said.
