Krishnappa Gowtham, the Karnataka SUV, was bought by Chennai Super Kings for a whopping Rs. 9.25 crore at IPL 2021 auction. Became most expensive uncapped Indian player in IPL history, news agency AND ME reported. Gowtham, a right-handed lower order hitter and roulette player, had entered the auction at a base price of Rs. 20 lakh. Gowtham became famous in the 2018 season with his six hits in the death overs. Overall in the IPL, he has 186 runs in 24 games, but 15 of those games came in 2018, where he broke 126 runs with a strike rate of 196.87.

Gowtham previously played for the Rajasthan Royals in 2018 and 2019 before being drafted by the Punjab Kings ahead of the 2020 season.

The 32-year-old has played 62 T20s in his career and has scored 594 runs with a strike rate of 159.24.

He also has 41 wickets in the game’s shortest format at 35.41 and an economy rate of 7.60 runs over.

Gowtham arrives as another SUV in a CSK lineup full of established SUVs like Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.

While Jadeja is still injured, Bravo and Curran are likely to make the starting lineup and Gowtham could enter the picture if Jadeja is not fit for the game early in the season.
