The propylene derivatives petrochemical complex project will help generate 5,00,000 metric tons per year (MTPA) of propylene. Propylene is one of the main raw materials for petrochemicals. With this capacity, BPCL is strategically entering the petrochemical sector to reduce the country’s dependence on imports of petrochemicals that are used to produce a wide range of items such as paints, printing inks, auto parts, diapers, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, etc.
This is expected to save Rs 4 billion in foreign exchange. These products find use in the automotive seats, mattresses, shoe soles, refrigeration, coatings and sealants, pharmaceuticals, food additives, fibers, etc. industry segments.
Various industries that use the raw materials generated at the Kochi Refinery, such as automobiles, plastic manufacturing units, costume factories, textiles, etc.
The prime minister also inaugurated the Sagarika cruise terminal in the port of Cochin. The 25 million rupee project funded by the Union Ministry of Tourism will help improve the capacity of the port of Cochin to serve cruise ship passengers docking here.
