After Rajya Sabha proceedings resumed on Wednesday, President M Venkaiah Naidu warned members against using mobile phones within the House. “There is a restriction on the use of cell phones within Rajya Sabha’s chambers. It has been observed that some members are using their mobile phones to record house proceedings while sitting on camera, such conduct goes against parliamentary etiquette, ”he said.
Hours earlier, Congressional MPs Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma suspended the commercial ad in Rajya Sabha over ongoing farmer agitation. BSP, CPI, All India Trinamool Congress, DMK, CPI (M) also gave notice of suspension of business in Rajya Sabha due to ongoing farmer agitation. Congressional deputy Rajeev Satav gave Zero Hour notice in the Upper House on the demand for the withdrawal of three agricultural laws.
While the Upper House was suspended only once, briefly, Lok Sabha witnessed repeated postponements with the opposition insisting on a separate discussion on the farmers’ protests.
President Om Birla’s attempt to resolve the matter through discussion with floor leaders was unsuccessful as he refused to allocate five hours to discuss the farmers issue.
When the house convened at 4 pm, congressional MPs headed for the house well shouting slogans and were soon joined by members of the DMK, TMC, Izquierda, AAP and Harsimrat Kaur of SAD.
