Opposition parties boycott the president’s speech to Parliament
17 opposition parties said on Thursday that they would boycott President Ram Nath Kovind’s usual speech at the joint session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Friday. They said this would be an expression of solidarity with the farmers’ unions who have been protesting on the Delhi borders for more than two months, demanding the repeal of the new agricultural laws.
In response to the announcement, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said: “I appeal to the leaders of all parties not to boycott the president’s speech. The government is ready to discuss all the frayed issues, and it will reserve all the time that is required when the Commercial Advisory Committees of both Chambers meet ”.
In a joint statement, opposition leaders said: “Thousands of farmers have been agitating outside the national capital of Delhi, braving the cold and heavy rains for the past 64 days for their rights and justice. More than 155 farmers have lost their lives. The government remains impassive and has responded with water cannons, tear gas and lathi charges. Every effort has been made to discredit a legitimate mass movement through a government-sponsored disinformation campaign. “
Unfortunately, there were few acts of violence on January 26 in the national capital of Delhi, which was universally and unequivocally condemned. We also express our sadness for the injuries sustained by Delhi police personnel while handling the difficult situation. But we believe that an impartial investigation will reveal the nefarious role of the Central Government in orchestrating these events, “said the leaders.
The signatories to the joint statement are the opposition leader in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, the leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the deputy leader of the Congress in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma, Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule of the PNC, Farooq Abdullah from the National Conference, TR Baalu from DMK and Tiruchi Siva, Derek O Brien and Sudip Bandyopadhyay from Trinamool Congress, Sanjay Raut from Shiv Sena, Ram Gopal Yadav from SP, Manoj Jha from RJD, Elamaram Kareem from CPM, Binoy Viswam from CPI, NK Premachandran from RSP, Vaiko from IMKL from PDP, Vaiko Laway from IMKL, Badruddin Ajmal from AIUDF and Thomas Chazhikadan from Kerala Congress (M).

The Economic Study 2020-21 will be presented in Parliament on Friday, January 29, 2021 by the Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman, two days before the Union’s Budget is presented. Generally, the Economic Survey is presented on the opening day of the Budget Session and provides a summary of the annual economic development across the country during the financial year.
It analyzes trends in the money supply, infrastructure, agricultural and industrial production, employment, prices, exports, imports, foreign exchange reserves, and other relevant factors that have an impact on the economy and the budget. This year, the focus will be on the losses suffered by the Indian economy due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
