Washington:

US President Joe Biden arrived at the White House on Wednesday, walking the last block with members of his family down streets eerily empty due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Under tight security, military gangs and a police motorcycle escort led the presidential motorcade to the White House down Pennsylvania Avenue.

Biden was traveling in a limousine with the license plate “46” – he is the 46th president of the United States – flanked by six Secret Service agents in masks before leaving to walk the last steps towards the White House.

“It feels like I’m going home,” he told an NBC News reporter along the route.

Biden’s arrival was soon followed by that of Kamala Harris, the first female vice president of the United States.

Biden, 78, was sworn in on Capitol Hill about four hours earlier and called for “unity” in his inaugural address.

Instead of going directly to the White House, Biden and Harris visited Arlington National Cemetery to pay their respects to the US military killed in the war in a ceremony attended by former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack. Obama
