The main defendant in the case of gang rape and murder of a 50-year-old woman was arrested in Budaun, western Uttar Pradesh, the district magistrate said Thursday. The main defendant, Satyanarayan, an occultist, was arrested on Thursday, while the other two men who are supposedly his disciples were arrested on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Sunday when the woman had gone to a temple and was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed by the three defendants.
Photographs that emerged of the woman’s house in the village, taken Monday morning, showed her body lying on a cot, surrounded by relatives and other villagers. A yellow sheet covering his lower body appears to be soaked in blood and one of his legs appears broken and bent over at the foot.
“They brought her in alone in a vehicle. She was dead when they left her here. The occultist and others left her at the door and left quickly,” the woman’s son said in an interview with local media Monday afternoon, adding , that the woman used to go to the place of worship regularly. “On Sunday, she had left home around 5 pm and the men brought her back around 11:30 pm,” her son was heard saying in an interview.
Autopsy reports revealed injuries to the woman’s private parts. “Post-mortem reports show minor injuries to her intimate parts, there are tears and she has a fracture in one of her legs. There was excessive bleeding and the bleeding caused shock and the death of the patient. Prima facie we found rape evidence,” he said on Wednesday Dr. Yashpal Singh, Budaun Medical Director.
