India’s drug regulator has approved the Oxford Covid-19 Covishield vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII), and the indigenously developed Bharat Biotech Covaxin.

S&P BSE Sensex rose more than 200 points to well above 48,000 for the first time in history. Nifty 50 also reached its all-time highs when crossing 14 100 for the first time. The broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices on Monday morning. Nifty smallcap 50 was up 0.99% while Nifty midcap 50 was up 1.43%. TCS, ONGC, SBI and L&T were the top winners from Sensex. Shanghai Composite was trading flat with a positive bias, while Hang Seng was up almost half a percent. South Korean equity markets were also green with the KOSPI rising 1.161%, but the TOPIX and Nikkei 225 were trading red.
India has joined the list of countries aiming to return to the old normal faster than anticipated, as the country approved two coronavirus vaccines yesterday. India’s drug regulator has approved the Oxford Covid-19 Covishield vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, developed in the country, for restricted emergency use. The IBS vaccine, Covishield, will be the main vaccine to be used, while Covaxin will be kept for emergency use. Covaxin is still in phase 3 trials.
