Police learned of the incident only at 2.30am, almost an hour after the defendant, Wadala resident Jogdhankar, and the victim’s childhood friend and neighbor Padankar, committed the alleged crime.
Police suspect that Jogdhankar and Padankar followed “someone’s advice” after committing the crime and fled the building, leaving behind a seriously injured Kukreja, and were admitted to two different hospitals, Jogdhankar in Sion and Padankar in Hinduja, to receive treatment for injuries. they also suffered during their fight with the victim.
Investigators discovered via CCTV that Kukreja and the duo left the party at around 1.30am and her body was found in a pool of blood on the second floor at around 2.30am by a resident. The friend who had organized the party called the police when he learned of Kukreja’s death.
The victim’s family learned of his death only at 5 a.m. Kukreja’s parents alleged that she bled to death for nearly an hour before the resident saw her.
“He left home after celebrating his father’s birthday on December 31,” Kukreja’s mother, Niddhi, told TOI. Niddhi said she wants justice for her “super smart daughter” who scored more than 95% in her Class XII and was a psychology student.
While Jogdhankar is a student at Dadar Catering College, Padankar is enrolled in a sophomore college.
Niddhi spent most of Saturday at the police station to find the motive for the crime. “Padankar is my daughter’s childhood friend and our neighbor’s daughter. She and Jogdhankar visited our flat and asked us to allow them to bring our daughter to the party. Despite our daughter’s refusal due to the night curfew, they told her they would leave her in 30 minutes, ”said Niddhi. “None of her friends at the party came to rescue her. The delay in receiving medical assistance cost my daughter her life. My daughter was not involved with Jogdhankar, who is just a mutual friend through Padankar. Our lives have been shattered, ”he said.
Kukreja’s final rites took place after her body was handed over to her parents after an autopsy at Cooper Hospital.
