Odisha GST Commissioner eliminated Rs 510 crore tax bill fraud (Representative)

The Odisha Goods and Services Tax (GST) Commissioner eliminated tax bill fraud to the tune of Rs 510 crore and arrested its mastermind Sandeep Mohanty in Cuttack, an official said on Friday.
SK Lohani, commissioner of Odisha, Central Tax (CT) and GST, while speaking with ANI, said that the defendant has accepted his crimes.
“There are people who are trying to misuse the GST system. After analyzing the data, we selected the questionable tax returns and performed field checks of those filing entities. In this process, we found a tax theft scam in which a person named Sandeep Mohanty used a fake purchase and sale invoices of 510 million rupees, “Lohani said.
“Mohanty made use of a false input tax credit (ITC) and false purchase invoices in the name of 22 fictitious firms that came to light when the Compliance Wing conducted a statewide search operation,” he added.
The official further said that during questioning, “Mohanty accepted that he misused the GST system to commit fraud.”
