The leader of Congress and former Union Minister Buta Singh died at the AIIMS in Delhi early on Saturday morning. He was 86 years old. He had been in a coma since October last year after suffering a brain hemorrhage.

Her passing was announced by her son Arvinder Singh Lovely Sidhu on Facebook. “My father, Buta Singh, passed away this morning. May Waheguru bless his soul,” the Hindi post read.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the country by condoning the death of Singh, who was a member of Shiromani Akali Dal before joining Congress in the 1960s.

Tributes also came from President Ram Nath Kovind, Congressional Rahul Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot, Amarinder Singh and Kuldeep Bishnoi, in addition to many others, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
