According to ANI reports, Umesh Yadav, who suffered a calf strain in the second test in Australia, will no longer participate in the series and will return to India immediately. T Natarajan, who is currently with the team, will fill that spot on the squad with an SCG debut looming.
India lost Ishant Sharma before the tour, Mohammed Shami during the tour and now Umesh Yadav is the next addition to the list. Vidarbha’s pacemaker, who fired Joe Burns with a delivery peach before injuring his calf, will no longer be part of the Indian squad for the next two games. He will return to India and continue his rehabilitation with the NCA physiotherapist.
“His scans came in and he will miss Game 3 and Game 4. So there was no point stopping him and he had better go back to the country and undergo rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He left Wednesday night.” a BCCI source told ANI.
“With limited options available, team management may request that Natarajan be added to the team,” the source said.
India also has Kartik Tyagi on the team as a net shooter who impressed in the practice match, but given that T Natarajan pitched excellently at the nets, he appears to be the favorite for a starting role in Sydney. India also has Shardul Thakur on the squad that replaced Mohammed Shami after the latter was ruled out of the tour following a blow to the arm by Pat Cummins.
