4 New UK Covid Variant Cases Detected in India, Count 29 | India News


NEW DELHI: The central government said on Friday that four more cases of the mutant strain Covid UK have been detected in the country, bringing the total count of such cases to 29 so far. They are kept in physical isolation in sanitary facilities.
Of these 29 cases, eight have been registered with the National Center for Disease Control in Delhi, two with the CSIR Institute for Genomics and Integrative Biology in Delhi, ten with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bangalore.
Three of these cases have been detected in Cell and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad, five in the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bangalore and one in the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics in West Bengal.
On Tuesday, a total of six returnees from the UK tested positive for the new genome variant. These were the first cases reported by the country that has the second highest number of cases after the United States.
The British government had recently announced that the new strain of the virus identified in its population is up to 70% more transmissible.
In particular, the new UK variant has already been reported by Denmark, the Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon and Singapore.
From November 25 to midnight December 23, about 33,000 passengers disembarked at various Indian airports from the UK. All these passengers are being tracked and subjected by states and UT to RT-PCR tests.
