New Delhi:

On Friday, the Aam Aadmi Party attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is on a personal visit to Italy, responding to his New Year’s tweet with a question: “Are you back from Milan?”

In his New Years greeting, Rahul Gandhi had wished everyone a “happy new year”, remembering those who “lost” and who “protect” and “sacrifice for us.”

“My heart goes out to farmers and workers who fight unjust forces with dignity and honor,” Gandhi wrote in his tweet, reiterating his support for the thousands who have been protesting for over a month against a handful of new farm laws passed by Parliament in September.

Rahul Gandhi has often faced criticism from his political opponents during his vacations and downtimes, with many wondering if he has the tenacity to take on politicians like Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Interior Minister Amit Shah.

Earlier this week, the 50-year-old was attacked by the BJP who attacked him during his trip abroad as the party celebrated its 136th Foundation Day today.

Congress said the BJP should have no objection to Gandhi visiting a sick family member.

“Rahul Gandhi has gone out on a short personal visit to meet a sick relative, who is seriously ill. He has not gone on vacation. He also meets his maternal grandmother at this time of year, every year. I don’t think the BJP I should have objections to my visiting a sick relative, “Randeep Surjewala said, according to the PTI news agency.

Gandhi’s trip abroad comes shortly after the party’s top leaders met about a week ago, including those who have called for radical organizational changes due to poor electoral performance. While Gandhi told the leaders at the meeting that he is “ready to work for the party as he wishes,” sources have told NDTV that he is firm in his decision not to return as party chairman.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also avoided answering questions about Brother Rahul while speaking to reporters amid celebrations at the Delhi headquarters.
