Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for Light House Projects (LHP) on Friday within the framework of the Global Housing Technology Challenge (GHTC) -India, conceptualized by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The project aims to identify and incorporate several innovative technologies from around the world that are sustainable and resistant to disasters.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi said that the six projects would lead to housing projects in the country, adding that this will also strengthen cooperative federalism. The prime minister further said that previously, housing projects were not prioritized by various central governments and that governments were not concerned about the quality of housing infrastructure. Today, the country has taken a different approach. We have decided to change the focus towards housing. Why shouldn’t the country get better technology? “PM Modi commented.
Speaking more about the GHTC-India challenge, more than 50 companies working on innovative technologies participated. PM Modi then spoke about the technologies that will be used in the six locations: Agartala, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, Chennai and Ranchi. Those of Indore, he said, will not have brick walls; For this, the “prefabricated sandwich panel” system will be used. For Rajkot, Prime Minister Modi said, French “monolithic concrete construction” technology will be used.
Chennai will use a precast concrete system from the United States and Finland, while Ranchi will use the 3D construction system from Germany, PM Modi added. New Zealand steel structure technology will be used in Agartala and a Canadian technology will be used in Lucknow, he added.
Hours earlier, Prime Minister Modi tweeted: “On the first day of 2021 he will participate in a program aimed at transforming the urban landscape of India. It will lay the foundation stone for Light House Projects and distribute the PMAY (Urban) and ASHA-India awards. Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and senior ministers from Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand, respectively, also addressed the meeting on Friday.
