On his New Years greetings, Rahul Gandhi does a veiled dig at the Center on Farm Laws

Congressional leader Rahul Gandhi said in the New Year’s message Friday that his heart went out to the farmers who were fighting “unjust forces with dignity and honor.” As we begin the New Year, we remember those we lost and thank all who protect us and sacrifice for us. My heart goes out to the farmers and workers who fight unjust forces with dignity and honor. Happy New Year everyone, ”he tweeted.

The leader of Congress has spoken out on several occasions in support of farmers protesting against the three agricultural laws passed by the Center in September last year. On December 24, after meeting with President Ram Nath Kovind along with other party members to discuss the demands made by farmers, Rahul Gandhi said, “India is now an imaginary democracy.”

Also on December 27, he took aim at the Center for the protests, saying that farmers should keep walking and not be afraid of “government bravado.” He used a modified version of the popular Dwarkaprasad Maheshwari poem “Veer Tum Badhe Chalo” to make the point. “Keep walking Oh brave, you patiently advance. It doesn’t matter if there is a shower of water cannons or bravado / bravado, fear not, oh brave one. Stand firm and keep walking. Or ‘annadata’, keep walking, ”he said in a Hindi tweet.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting for more than a month against the new farm laws. His demand that the three farm laws be repealed entirely has not been accepted by the government. Even after several rounds of talks between the two sides, the government has only suggested modifying the laws. However, farmers have said they will accept nothing less than the total repeal of these laws.

Another round of meetings between the government and farmers’ representatives is scheduled for January 4.
