Hours After Backing Assembly Resolution On Farm Laws, Kerala BJP MLA Says Opposed

Although O Rajagopal had abstained from voting, he had told the media after the session that he was in favor of the resolution.

Hours after stating that he endorsed the resolution passed by the Kerala Assembly seeking the withdrawal of agricultural laws from the Union government, BJP MLA O Rajagopal said that he had vehemently opposed the resolution. Rajagopal is the only BJP MLA in the state. The Kerala Assembly called a special session on Thursday and passed a resolution seeking the withdrawal of the three contentious agricultural laws, which have sparked protests in Delhi.

“I have vehemently opposed the resolution passed in the Assembly. I had energetically expressed my position while speaking at the session. I do not oppose the law passed by the Union government; nor have I opposed the Union government. law is of the utmost importance, it helps farmers, ”he said in a statement, a few hours after saying at a press meeting that he agreed with the resolution.

O Rajagopal abstained from voting in favor of the resolution and also said that the agricultural laws would help farmers, when the resolution was presented in the Assembly. But in a press meeting held in the Assembly press room immediately after the session, Rajagopal said that he was in favor of the resolution and had objections against certain words in it.

“I also made clear, when the ruling and opposition members criticized the Prime Minister and said he was not holding talks, that it was the stubbornness of the peasant unions that caused the agitation to continue. It is an unsubstantiated claim that I am against the Union government. I made it clear that the agricultural laws were there in the Congressional electoral manifesto, while the CPI (M) had previously sought the legislation through a resolution, ”said Rajagopal’s statement.

“The Spokesperson did not specifically ask who opposed and who supported the resolution at the time of the vote. This is a violation of precedence, ”he added.
