NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Thursday that preparations are underway to run the world’s largest vaccination program over the next year. He called on everyone to beware of rumors and, as responsible citizens, refrain from forwarding unverified social media messages.
“The number of new Covid-19 cases is declining in the country now. We are preparing to run the largest vaccination program in the world next year. In our country, rumors are spreading rapidly. Different people for their personal gain or due to irresponsible behavior spread various rumors. Perhaps rumors will spread when vaccination starts, some have already started, “said Prime Minister Modi.
“I appeal to the people of the country that the fight against Covid-19 is that of an unknown enemy. Be careful with these rumors and as responsible citizens refrain from forwarding messages on social networks without verification, “he added.
The comments came as the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot, Gujarat, via video conference today.
The prime minister also said that before he had said “dawai nahi toh dheelai nahi” (without neglect until the medicine for Covid-19 arrives), but now he says “dawai bhi aur kadaai bhi” (yes to the medicine and yes to the warning too).
“Earlier, I said, ‘dawai nahi toh dheelai nahi’ (no oversight until the medicine arrives). Now, I’m saying ‘dawai bhi aur kadaai bhi’ (yes to medicine and yes to warning). Our mantra for the year 2021 is ‘Dawai bhi aur kadaai bhi,’ “said PM Modi.
10 new AIIMS have been worked on in the last six years. Many of which are working today. Along with AIIMS, they are also working on Super Special Hospitals like 20 AIIMS in the country, he added.
“The type of medical infrastructure that has developed in Gujarat over the past two decades is a big reason why Gujarat is better equipped to deal with Corona.
AIIMS Rajkot will further strengthen Gujarat’s health network, “said Prime Minister Modi.
The new AIIMS in Rajkot covers 201 acres of land and will be built at an estimated cost of 1195 million rupees.
According to an official statement, it is expected to be completed by mid-2022. The 750-bed state-of-the-art hospital will also have a 30-bed AAYUSH block. It will have 125 MBBS seats and 60 nursing seats.
The foundation’s laying ceremony was also attended by the Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, the Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, and the Union Minister of State for Health, Ashwini Kumar Choubey.
