The Bengaluru City Police have announced further restrictions on New Years celebrations in the city citing the emergence of cases related to the new strain of coronavirus among returnees from the UK.
According to the city police commissioner Kamal Pant, Ban orders issued earlier were extended late Wednesday night from 12 noon on December 31 to 6 a.m. on January 1, 2021.
“All overpasses will be closed to traffic. Barricades will also be placed at the main signs and crossings to regulate traffic in the city, ”said Pant when explaining the traffic restrictions that will be applied.
Meanwhile, this time the police have also cracked down on potential pleasure trips. “No unnecessary travel, biking and loitering on the streets are allowed,” added Pant.
Additionally, the police warned that any motorist caught engaging in reckless behavior, driving under the influence of alcohol, or causing a nuisance to the public will be subject to strict disciplinary measures. “Motorists suspected of driving while intoxicated will be detained and subjected to a medical examination,” the police added.
At the same time, the Bengaluru City Traffic Police (BTP) notified that parking will continue to be prohibited on Brigade Road, MG Road, Church Street, Museum Road, Rest House Park Road, Residency Road and Indiranagar 100 Ft Road and its surroundings. “Vehicle movement will be restricted on and around MG Road, with the exception of police vehicles and other essential and emergency services.
Several traffic diversions that will also be in operation in the city are the following:
Vehicles moving onto MG Road from Queens Road should turn left at Anil Kumble Circle to continue onto Central Street, BRV Junction and turn right onto Cubbon Road to reach Webbs Junction and continue on MG Road.
Traffic to MG Road from the Trinity junction has been redirected to turn right at the Webbs junction to reach Manipal Center and turn left to continue to Cubbon Road.
Vehicles moving to Halasuru and Hosur Road from the Cash Pharmacy junction have been asked to move down Museum Road, SBI junction, St Mark’s Road, Anil Kumble Circle, BRV junction to reach Cubbon Road and continue .

Meanwhile, the police have barricaded several areas of the city where people are likely to gather for New Year’s celebrations.
