The Disaster Management Authority of Delhi on Thursday announced a curfew in the city on New Year’s Eve, restricting more than five people from gathering in a public place. According to an order, celebratory events, congregations and gatherings are not allowed in public places from 11 pm on December 31 to 6 am on January 1, 2021. However, the order exempts authorized venues.

“A detailed assessment of the situation has been made in Delhi and considering the threat posed by the mutant strain of the Covid-19 virus in the UK and after observing the local incidents of the Covid-19 pandemic in Delhi, it is suspected that gatherings, congregations and public celebrations of the New Year pose a considerable threat of spreading the virus and may cause a setback in the appreciable progress made in suppressing the chain of transmission of Covid-19 cases in Delhi, ”said one order issued by Chief Secretary Vijay Dev.
“The night curfew will be in effect (no more than five people to gather in public places), and New Years celebration events, congregations and gatherings will not be allowed in the public place from 11 pm on December 31 to 6 am on January 1, 2021, and also from 11 pm on January 1 to 6 am on January 2 … Public places will not include authorized premises. However, there will be no restriction on the interstate and intrastate movement of people and goods during the curfew period ”, additional.
The chief secretary has also directed all district magistrates, DCPs and all concerned authorities to ensure strict compliance with the order.
