BJP-JJP hit in 4 out of 6 civic body polls in Haryana | India News


CHANDIGARH: In a setback for the ruling BJP-JJP combo in Haryana, the alliance won only one of three mayoral elections. The BJP lost four of the six civic body elections to Congress, the Haryana Jan Chetna Party (HJCP) and independent candidates. The results were announced Wednesday.
BJP’s Kulbushan Goyal will be the new mayor of Panchkula.
BJP’s Kulbushan Goyal defeated Congressional Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia in Panchkula. In Rewari, BJP’s Poonam Yadav won the MC chairman post and seven seats, losing the rest to Congress and independents.
The alliance was rejected in the municipal committees of Dharuhera, Sampla and Uklana, where independent candidates won. In Dharuhera, Kanwar Singh defeated BJP’s Rao Man Singh. In Uklana, independent candidate Sushil Singla defeated joint JJP-BJP candidate Mahendra Soni by 419 votes for the post of president.
In Sonipat, the post of mayor went to Nikhil Madan of Congress, who defeated Lalit Batra of the BJP by 13,818 votes. The BJP won 10 seats while its ally lost the five seats its candidates had competed for. At Ambala, HJCP’s Shakti Rani Sharma defeated BJP’s Vandana Sharma.
