NEW DELHI: As China seeks to hold communist alliance together, despite division in government Communist Party of Nepal (NCP), the party’s PK Dahal Prachanda-Madhav Nepal faction told TOI on Wednesday that the only way to restore unity was through the reinstatement of the House of Representatives by Prime Minister KP. Oli.
The PNC is now divided into two factions, one led by Oli and the other by Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal.
While addressing a rally on Tuesday, Madhav Nepal had said that the party could still be united if Oli accepted his mistake.
Dahal-Nepal CPN senior leader and former minister Ram Karki told TOI that there was no other way for Oli to accept his mistake other than to roll back the decision to dissolve the lower house. While he denied any interference from China, he also said that Dahal’s party will continue to pursue a “policy of balance” with India and China.
“Oli has left no room for unity with his decision to dissolve the Chamber. Our government was in the majority when he threw the country into uncertainty with his decision,” said Karki, who is also the deputy leader of the party’s foreign affairs cell. . .
Karki had accompanied Madhav Nepal to the meeting with the Chinese delegation that visited Nepal apparently to mediate between Oli and Dahal and restore the party’s unity. The delegation led by Vice Minister Guo Yezhou finally left Nepal on Wednesday but Chinese Ambassador Hou Yanqi remains in contact with both sides to keep the alliance intact ahead of next year’s elections, in what reports from Kathmandu described as the plan. B from Beijing.
While many in Nepal have accused China of interfering in the country’s internal affairs, Karki emphatically denied this, saying it was natural for Beijing to assess the situation when uncertainty prevailed.
“What we saw from China was quiet diplomacy. They seemed more interested in listening than talking. Communist parties in other countries, including India, have also expressed similar sentiments about party unity and have sent us their best wishes.” Karki said, adding that the meeting with the Chinese delegation did not mention India or the United States.
While denying that there was any pressure on the prime minister of any foreign country, a leader of the Oli faction, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Oli had no choice but to dissolve the House due to the “destructive role” played by his rivals. . Oli had also been actively working in recent months to improve ties with India, leading to the resumption of bilateral engagements. Even amid the current instability, his government has said that ties with India will not be affected. Nepalese Ambassador to India Nilambar Acharya told TOI this week that Nepal was eager to have a meeting of foreign ministers.
