CHENNAI: The BJP on Wednesday he said he can seek the support of the superstar Rajinikanth for the 2021 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, a day after the star said he had abandoned his plan to make his political foray.
Affirming that her alliance with him AIADMK was strong, BJP National Secretary General CT Ravi said that the NDA it was led by his party and ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ in the state as well, apparently indicating that it was not led by the ruling party, the senior partner.
In Tamil Nadu, AIADMK was the largest partner of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and naturally the prime minister will be from that party, Ravi, the state in charge of the BJP, told reporters here, responding to a number of questions about the ties between the two parties.
A formal decision on the NDA’s chief ministerial candidate will be made once the Electoral Commission issues the call for the assembly elections, scheduled for April-May, he said, adding that the strategy is part of the ongoing exercise to strengthen the BJP in the state.
AIADMK has already announced incumbent K Palaniswami as its main ministerial candidate in the elections.
Previously, former Indian team player and cricket commentator Laxman Sivaramakrishnan and several elected representatives at the local body level joined the BJP.
On Rajinikanth’s announcement that he would not launch a political party, Ravi praised the actor and said that he had always protected Tamil Nadu and national interests. “He is a great leader.”
When asked if his party would seek his support, he said: “I hope we ask.”
To a similar question, Ravi said that everyone knows, “how close are Modi Ji and Rajinikanth”.
AIADMK has also expressed the view that Rajinikanth would support the party-led alliance in light of his decision not to float his team.
Opposition parties have said that Rajinikanth’s decision not to join politics would hurt the BJP, and maintain that he hoped to join it and become a force in the state.
Rajinikanth, who previously said he would launch his party next month, had announced on Tuesday that he would not be entering politics in light of his health condition, having undergone a kidney transplant four years ago and considering the coronavirus pandemic situation. .
The actor’s assertion that he would serve the people in every possible way – without entering into electoral politics – has led a part of the BJP supporters to the expectation that he will “lend his voice” in favor of the party, as he had supported to the party led by DMK. alliance in 1996.
His statement then that even “God cannot save Tamil Nadu if the AIADMK is returned to power” became very famous in the run-up to the polls that the DMK went on to sweep.
The head of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit, L Murugan, who was also present at the press meeting, said the party had not been “officially” engaged in any conversation with the expelled DMK leader, MK Alagiri, about his possible incorporation to the national party.
Alagiri, son of the late DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi, had said days ago that he would decide his future course of action after consultations with his supporters on January 3.
“If he (Alagiri) joins, we will welcome him,” Murugan said, adding that everyone, including Arjunamurthy, who left the BJP to join Rajinikanth, was welcome as party members.
