Three from Bengaluru were found to be infected with the new variant of the UK coronavirus on Tuesday.
As of Wednesday morning, four more patients in Karnataka have tested positive for the new genome variant of SARS-CoV-2 in the UK, bringing the state total to seven. Three, including a woman and her child, were reported Tuesday to have been infected with the new variant of the coronavirus in the UK in Bengaluru. All four include a couple and their two children who have recently returned from London. Dr Nagaraj Naik, a district health officer, said that both children are under 12 years old and that another sample that was submitted for district genome sequencing was found to be an old variant.
By the way, three contacts of these four patients also tested positive for coronavirus and their samples were sent for genome sequencing. None of the contacts in Bangalore have tested positive for the virus, confirmed Dr K Sudhakar, Karnataka’s Minister of Health. The UK variant is believed to be more infectious than other variants of the novel coronavirus.

He also added that none of these patients have serious symptoms and are under observation in government hospitals as a precautionary measure.
“Across the country, 107 returnees from the UK have tested positive. Of those, 20 have the new strain through genomic testing today. Delhi has 8 of them and Karnataka has 7 of them. Of the 7 in Karnataka, 3 are within the BBMP boundaries and 4 are in Shivamogga, ”Dr. Sudhakar told reporters.
He added: “We have identified 39 contacts in Bangalore and we have been tested and none of them have tested positive and it is a good sign. As those of Shivamogga were caught immediately, there are 7 contacts of which 3 are positive, but we do not know if it is the new variant. “
