New strain of coronavirus in India: here are some states where cases have been found


The number of returnees to India from the UK, who tested positive for the new mutant coronavirus genome discovered there in September, rose from six on Tuesday to 20, the Union Health Ministry reported Wednesday. The returnees, who tested positive, come from various states.

These are some of the states / territories of the Union (UT), to which they returned where it has been found positive for the new strain Covid-19:

Karnataka: The state that appears to have suffered the brunt of the new strain of coronavirus is Karnataka. In addition to three that tested positive on Tuesday, four more tested positive on Wednesday, bringing the total to seven. All four, who are from Shivamogga, belong to the same family and had recently returned from the UK.

Delhi: Of the 20 people who tested positive, four are from Delhi. They tested positive on Wednesday and were isolated in separate rooms at the capital’s Lok Nayak hospital. None are symptomatic for Covid-19 and all remain stable, authorities said.

Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh: At least one returnee from each of the three southern states has tested positive for the new strain of coronavirus. Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan confirmed Tuesday that a returnee from the UK to the state was positive. The cases from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, meanwhile, were reported in Warangal and Nellore, respectively.

Uttar Pradesh: A two-year-old girl tested positive in the country’s most populous state, prompting health officials to issue an alert, the Hindustan Times’ sister publication Hindustan reported.

West Bengal: The state registered its first case of the new strain on Wednesday, Bengal health officials said, citing the PTI news agency. The patient is the son of a senior official at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital and had recently returned from London, PTI reported.
