Indian Railways completes Vistadome coach speed test

Indian Railways has successfully completed the 180 km / h test of the new Vistadome tour coaches, Rail Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday. Goyal shared images of the luxurious coach, manufactured by Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, on Twitter

“Ending the year on a high note: Indian Railways successfully completed the 180 kmph speed test of the new Vistadome design tour coach. These coaches will make train travel memorable for passengers and further boost tourism, ”wrote Goyal.

The Vistadome coaches, which run primarily on the tourist and scenic railway routes of India, are made with clear glass roofs and wide windows offering a specially built panoramic view for the indulgent tourist experience. Indian Railways has 13 Vistadome coaches currently operating on select routes in India, namely Dadar and Madgaon, Araku Valley, Kashmir Valley, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Kalka Shimla Railway, Kangra Valley Railway, Matheran Hill Railway, and Nilgiri Mountain Railway.

Along with observation windows at one end, the coaches are also equipped with controlled glass roof opalescence, swivel seats, passenger information system, automatic sliding doors, a mini pantry and wide doors for people with disabilities, according to the Ministry of Railways. The cost of manufacturing a single Vistadome coach is about 4 million rupees, according to a ministry statement in June.

In addition to the standard safety measures provided, other measures have been used in the manufacture of Vistadome coaches, such as glasses that are resistant to shatters and film coating for the safety of the passengers.

Goyal also announced the resumption of the services of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway in Tamil Nadu and the successful test of an electric locomotive on a newly electrified railway line between Bangaon and Petrapole in West Bengal.
