Ghaziabad: In a shocking incident reported in the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, a 23-year-old boy was beaten to death in the Loni area over an alleged business rivalry. Video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Police said the main defendant in the case was arrested. The incident took place in the Ankur Vihar area on Monday. The victim has been identified as Ajay Kumar.
What was most shocking was that bystanders recorded video of the incident rather than helping the victim.
In the video that has now gone viral, two men could be seen beating the man with iron bars as he lay on the road in a pool of blood.
The defendants were said to be upset after their flower business outside a temple in Loni witnessed decline while the victim’s prospered, according to a report in the Hindustan Times.
The two defendants have been identified as Govind Sharma, 21, and his friend Amit Kumar, 22, both residents of Sarita Vihar in Delhi.
Motive behind the murder
“Govind had been selling flowers outside the Loni temple for the past few years. However, his business suffered after Ajay opened his shop there eight months ago. Govind planned the murder with his friend Amit,” the report quoted the Superintendent as saying. Police (Rural) Iraj Raja as saying.
The defendant attacked Ajay when he boarded an auto-rickshaw to go home after closing his store. The defendant took Ajay out of the vehicle and hit him with iron bars.
“The defendant kept hitting Ajay’a’s head for about 3-4 minutes. Passersby recorded video of the incident but did not help the victim. After obtaining the information, the police rushed to the scene and took the victim to a hospital where he succumbed to serious head injuries, “Raja added.
