Former Gujarat Union Minister MB Vasava resigns from BJP

There is speculation that Mansukh Vasava’s play could be a pressure tactic.

New Delhi:

The former Union minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, Mansukh Bhai Vasava, has resigned from the BJP. The six-time Bharuch deputy from Gujarat has said that he would resign from Lok Sabha during Parliament’s budget session.

In a letter to the BJP state president, CR Paatil, Vasava said: “I have been loyal to the party. I have concerned myself with party values. However, after all, I am a human being. A man knowingly makes mistakes or without knowing it”. I resign from the party so that my mistake will not cause damage to the party.

“During the Budget session, I will meet with the Speaker in person and deliver my resignation from Lok Sabha membership. Please convey this decision to central leadership,” he further wrote.

There is speculation that Vasava’s move could be a pressure tactic.

There have been reports that the 56-year-old is upset by the party’s lack of response on the issues he has been pointing to. He has also been critical of the functioning of the state BJP.

Lately, Vasava has been raising several issues related to her constituency.

Last week, Vasava had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting the withdrawal of a notification from the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change that declared 121 villages in the Narmada district as an eco-sensitive area.

BJP state spokesman Bharat Pandya said the party received the resignation letter via social media, the Press Trust of India news agency reported. “Paatil has spoken with him and assured him that any problem he has will be solved. Vasava is a senior deputy from Gujarat and we will solve all his problems,” the PTI was quoted as saying.
