Patna:
Sushil Modi of the BJP paid an unusual tribute to the late party leader and former Union minister Arun Jaitley on his birth anniversary. The farmers’ protest would not have continued for so long if Arun Jaitley had been alive, Sushil Modi said in what appeared to duplicate criticism of his party colleagues.
The protest against the Center’s agricultural laws has continued on the borders of Delhi since November 26. Five rounds of talks with the Union Minister of Agriculture, Narendra Tomar, and one round with the Union Minister of the Interior, Amit Shah, have failed to convince farmers of the benefits of the laws, which they want to eliminate.
The Supreme Court has now ordered a committee to be formed to investigate the matter.
“I am sure that if Arun Jaitley had been alive today, the kind of problems facing farmers, on which this agitation is taking place, he would definitely have found a solution,” Modi said this morning.
The highest BJP leader in the state, Sushil Modi, will receive a central assignment, the BJP said. Party sources said he would be appointed a minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted his tribute to the late leader.
“Remembering my friend, Arun Jaitley Ji on his birth anniversary. His warm personality, intellect, legal acumen and resourcefulness are missed by all those with whom he interacted closely. He worked tirelessly for the progress of India,” read the tweet of the former. Minister Modi.
Arun Jaitley had died on August 25 of last year at the age of 66. Interior Minister Amit Shah, who said Arun Jaitley had guided him for years, will reveal his status today at the Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi. Mr. Jaitley was the former president of DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Association).
