SHIMLA: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday he said that attempts to “cheat” farmers on recent farm laws will not be successful.

Whenever a reform is done, it takes a few years before it begins to show positive results, Singh said in his online address.
Whether they were the 1991 economic reforms introduced by then-Finance Minister Manmohan Singh or others enacted during the Vajpayee government, it took four or five years to see their positive results, he added.
“Similarly, if we cannot wait four or five years, we can wait at least two years to witness the positive results of the agricultural reforms carried out by the Narendra Modi government,” added the defense minister.
Thousands of farmers have been protesting at different boreholes in Delhi against the three laws enacted in September.
They have been claiming that the new laws will destroy the mandi system and end the Minimum Price of Livelihood mechanism, apprehensions that the government has insisted are out of place.
