Yuvraj Singh and Sreesanth in line for comebacks?
In September this year, Yuvraj Singh told Cricbuzz in an exclusive talk about his desire to play national cricket again. Yuvraj, who had announced his retirement from all forms of the game last year, signaled his intention to return in a letter written to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
“I enjoyed spending time with these young people and talking to them about various aspects of the game. I realized that they were able to pick up on various things I was saying to them,” Yuvraj said. Cricbuzz.
Earlier this month, Yuvraj was training with the Punjab prospects at IS Bindra Stadium in the 10-day prep camp before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, while awaiting BCCI approval for his national comeback.
It should be noted that the BCCI rule states that active cricketers on the domestic circuit cannot participate in the T20 leagues abroad. Yuvraj, however, has appeared at Global T20 Canada in August 2019 and Abu Dhabi T10 last November.
Fast bowler Sreesanth, meanwhile, has also taken a step towards a dramatic comeback since he was banned for his role in the IPL point-fixing scandal in 2013. The BCCI had previously lowered his ban, ending it in September 2020. Kerala has now named him on their 26-man likely list for the T20 event.
What we have so far …
The coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on India’s domestic calendar, leaving BCCI mulling where to start this season. They put it to a vote with all state associations, and most of them opted for the T20 tournament, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
After further deliberation, it was decided that the T20 event will be played starting on January 10. The league stage will continue until January 19, while knockouts will be played on January 26, January 27, January 29 and January 31.
