The validity of crucial documents such as driver’s license, vehicle registration, and certificates of fitness that have expired since February 1 and could not be extended due to the coronavirus pandemic has been extended until March 31, 2021, the Union Ministry of Road and Highway Transport (MoRTH) said on Sunday.
This is the fourth such extension to the validity of these documents. The last such extension was made in August, when the government had extended the validity until December 31, 2020. The latest extension is intended to cover documents that expire on February 1 or March 31, 2021.
This has been done to help citizens use their private means of transportation while maintaining social distancing, MoRTH said. “This will help citizens to make use of transport-related services while maintaining social distancing,” said the circular published by the Press Information Office.
Taking into account the long queues for the renewal of licenses that would violate the rules of social distancing, and the lockdowns and curfews that are still in force in different parts of the country, the decision to extend the term was made by the Ministry of the Union.
“The government has provided the availability of essential goods and their production and has allowed vehicles to transport said goods / cargo and has further opened the operation of passenger transport in view of the fact that citizens They found it difficult to get the validity of various documents renewed due to the blockade in operation at various stages in different parts of the country and other countries around the world. The renewal of such documents is still causing the gathering of people and long queues in front of transport offices throughout the country, ”said the Union government in a notice to all states and territories of the union (UT).
The Union ministry has asked all states and UT to implement the recent advisory in letter and spirit so that citizens will not face additional challenges during an ongoing pandemic.
