The Thiruvananthapuram couple had recently married.
After a 51-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday morning, the police detained her husband. The deceased, Sakha Kumari, was found electrocuted at her residence in the Karakonam neighborhood. While her husband Arun, 29, claimed that Sakha died after being hit by Christmas lights at their home, the police became suspicious of Arun after they found her statements dubious.
“We have arrested Arun. He is our main suspect and we are questioning him. However, we are still investigating the case and we have not yet registered a First Information Report (FIR) or added sections, ”the investigating officer from the Vellarada police station in Thiruvananthapuram told TNM.
The deceased, Sakha, was reportedly a native of Karakonam, while Arun is from Balaramapuram. The duo recently married and were living with Sakha’s elderly mother in Karakonam, according to reports.
The police started questioning Arun after neighbors raised suspicions about Sakha’s death. The reports cite statements from the home nurse at their home who said the couple used to argue a lot. The house nurse, who was caring for Sakha’s mother and had been living together in the house for months, said the couple used to have fights because their marriage was not registered. A photo of the couple’s wedding, which was allegedly leaked, also provoked Arun and the couple reportedly got into a fight over this incident.
There was an earlier attempt to electrocute Sakha, according to reports. However, the police have not confirmed such an incident. Arun, who is currently in police custody, will be questioned thoroughly, after which an FIR will be registered and could be released on bail from the station.
According to neighbors, there were bloodstains on the bed and on Sakha at the time of his death. More research is underway.
