Union Interior Minister Amit Shah offered prayers Sunday at the Shaktipeeth Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal Hills, on the last day of his three-day visit to the northeast, before departing for Manipur, where it is scheduled. to inaugurate projects, said a senior official.
Amit Shah arrived at the temple from the PWD Inspection Bungalow in Amingaon around 10 am, accompanied by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister of Health Himanta Biswa Sarma, the official said.
The Minister of the Interior, however, entered the sanctum sanctorum of the temple with only three “Dolois” or priests, while Sonowal and Sarma waited near the door.
He also carried out a “parikrama” (bypass) around the sanctuary, added the senior official.
The top BJP leader, who landed here on Friday night, launched four development projects the next day at an official function. He met with the expelled congressional deputies Ajanta Neog and Rajdeep Goala, after which the two confirmed that they would join the saffron party.
The Union minister held an evening meeting with members of the state BJP central committee to discuss the voting strategy for the upcoming Assam assembly elections.
Amit Shah is ready to lay the foundation stones for seven major projects in Manipur, including a medical college in Churachandpur, later that day. It will also inaugurate the Thoubal Dam and dedicate the Bishnupur-Tupul-Thoubal-Kasom Khullen highway to the public.
