Chennai:

Actor and politician Kamal Haasan tweeted on Friday to wish a speedy recovery for megastar Rajinikanth, who was admitted to Hyderabad hospital today for “severe fluctuations” in his blood pressure. “Wishes for Rajinikanth’s speedy recovery,” Haasan tweeted in Tamil.

Rajinikanth, 70, was in Hyderabad for his film “Annathe,” but filming was canceled earlier this week after four team members tested positive for Covid.

Rajinikanth tested negative for Covid on Tuesday, Apollo Hyderabad reported.

Although he did not have any symptoms of Covid-19, his blood pressure was showing severe fluctuations and he needed further evaluation, so he was admitted to the hospital. He will be investigated and closely monitored in the hospital until his blood pressure stabilizes before being discharged, “the statement said.

The actor is stable and will spend the night in the hospital, Apollo Hyderabad said in an update tonight. “Rajinikanth is being closely monitored and medications to control his blood pressure are being carefully titrated,” he said.

Rajinikanth, whose political downfall has been the subject of much speculation in recent years, is scheduled to announce the launch date for his political party on December 31, months before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Earlier this month, he had announced that his party will compete in the Tamil Nadu elections. “We will surely win the assembly elections and deliver an honest, transparent, corruption-free spiritual secular policy, without caste, creed or religion. A wonder and a miracle will definitely happen,” he had tweeted.

Haasan, whose Makkal Needhi Maiam will face his first election in the assembly earlier this month, had expressed his willingness to work with Rajinikanth, hinting at a possible alliance.

“Let Rajini speak. We will help each other if necessary … give up all ego and cooperate if that benefits the people. We have said it before … there is nothing new to say now,” he had said.

“(But) we cannot take their one word (a reference to Rajinikanth’s promise of ‘spiritual politics’ as the cornerstone of his party) as a complete ideology. Let them explain in detail, then we will talk,” he added.
