He made the remarks at a rally in Delhi that is part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) efforts to combat the ongoing protest against the three contentious farm laws. The ruling party is conducting a nationwide outreach to farmers on December 25, the birthday of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Addressing a demonstration in Dwarka in the national capital, Singh said that he himself is the son of a farmer and assured that the Modi government “will never do anything that is not in the interest of farmers.”

Describing the protesting farmers as his own people, Singh said: “Those who are sitting in dharna are farmers and they were born into farming families. We have a lot of respect for them. “

Underlining that all problems can be solved through dialogue, Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants talks with farmers to continue and therefore the government has extended an invitation to them. Singh also said that the government is taking all steps in the interest of farmers.

“Our government will never do anything that is not in the interest of farmers. Those who are in dharna are farmers, born of farming families; we have a lot of respect for them. “

Speaking about the minimum support price, Singh said: “There has been a misconception that the minimum support price will end. The Prime Minister has said and I will also give my word that MSP will not end. “

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also addressed virtually farmers in every state on Friday and released the next batch of Rs 18 billion financial aid from the PM-Kisan plan.
