The head of the BJP Bengal unit, Dilip Ghosh, launched a concentration challenge of 10,000 farmers in Kolkata to the head of the Trinamool Congress, Mamata Banerjee. The BJP leader promised to display five times that number at his own rally, underscoring that farmers are with the party.
“I am challenging Mamata Banerjee and her leaders to gather 10,000 farmers and organize a rally in Calcutta if they can. We would organize 50,000 farmers and show them. Farmers stand with Narendra Modi, ”Dilip Ghosh said as he launched a mega booth-level outreach program ahead of the crucial assembly elections.
Ghosh also said that farmers in the state are not in favor of the Trinamool government in West Bengal. He alleged that Mamata Banerjee prefers to send her emissaries to meet with agitator farmers stationed on the Delhi borders, but does not allow any protest rallies in the state.
On Wednesday, Banerjee had sent five of his MPs to meet with farmers on the Singhu border to support their protest against the new agricultural laws. CM Banerjee also spoke with the farmers by phone and assured them of his support.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Mamata Banerjee government of “destroying” the state and depriving its more than 70 lakh farmers of the benefits of the Center’s flagship PM-KISAN program, under which 6,000 rupees are awarded to the year to each farmer.
Defending his government, CM Banerjee accused the prime minister of trying to mislead people with half truths and distorted facts.
Meanwhile, the BJP in Bengal launched a massive door-to-door outreach program titled ‘Amar Booth Sobcheye Mazboot (My Stand is Strongest)’ at 78,000 polling stations across the state with party workers.
“We have been able to reach almost all the stands and establish stand committees. Stall workers would visit all houses until December 28. On December 27, they would urge people to listen to the prime minister’s Mann ki Baat program. Large screens would be installed at each booth, ”Ghosh said.
In November, the BJP had drawn up a draft of the campaign strategy that the party would adopt in the run-up to the 2021 elections. Plans were made down to the booth level, so that each and every worker in the ground floor could participate during the campaign period and the party could cover the maximum area before the elections are called.
“This outreach program is part of that and efforts are being made so that no booth-level worker is left out. They are being given responsibilities, ”said a senior BJP leader.
Each booth president would be given a kit that included a mask, a disinfectant and a diary to mark the details of the campaign. He would also have several brochures detailing the outreach program, a 23-point guide to the duties of a booth chairman, and a letter from the prime minister. The booth president would receive a plaque with his home’s name, a BJP flag to hoist at his home, and stickers to distribute to each home he visited.
