Toll collection through FASTag crossed for the first time ₹80 crore per day on December 24, 2020 with a record of 50 lakh of FASTag transactions per day, a historic milestone, the government said on Friday.
“With over Rs 2.2 million FASTag issued to date, the adoption of FASTag by highway users has seen unprecedented growth. As FASTag is mandatory for vehicles as of January 1, 2021, the NHAI has made all the necessary arrangements to provide a smooth movement of vehicles in the payment places, “said the Ministry of Road and Highway Transport.
The adoption of FASTag has helped road users save time and fuel at toll plazas, the ministry added. The digital transaction has received the necessary boost through the recent amendment to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules.
FASTag is available at more than 30,000 points of sale (PoS) nationwide and is mandatorily available at NHAI toll stations. It is also available online through Amazon, Flip Kart, and Snapdeal. The program has partnered with 27 issuing banks and has included several options to simplify your recharge facility, such as Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), UPI, Online Payments, My FASTag Mobile App, PayTM, Google Pay, and others. In addition, the cash recharge facility is also provided at the points of sale (PoS) at the toll plazas for the convenience of users.
FASTag uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology that provides users with a smooth and effortless crossing at toll plazas without waiting or stopping. Payment is made digitally through the FASTag linked to the bank’s wallet. “As social distancing has become the new norm, travelers increasingly view FASTag as a toll payment option, since it negates the chances of any human contact between drivers and toll operators. Being an inclusive technological tool for the collection of tolls on highways, FASTag is a more practical and beneficial option, “said the ministry.
