India’s Active Covid-19 Cases Now Represent Only 2.8 Percent Of Total Cases | India News


NEW DELHI: The current contraction trend in India’s active Covid-19 infections has led to a reduction in the proportion of active cases in the total number of cases to 2.8 percent, the Health Ministry said on Thursday of the Union.
The count of active cases of the disease in the country amounts to 2.83.849 to date.
“There was a net decrease of 5,391 cases out of the total active cases in the last 24 hours,” the ministry said.
Daily recoveries have outnumbered new daily cases after nearly a month (27 days), he said.
“In a 24-hour period, only 24,712 people tested positive for Covid in the country. During the same period, 29,791 new recoveries were registered, which guaranteed a drop in the number of active cases,” the ministry said.
“India has registered fewer than 30,000 new cases daily continuously since the last 11 days,” he said.
Total recoveries are approaching 97 lakhs (96,93,173). The ministry said that it is observed that 79.56 percent of the new recovered cases are concentrated in 10 states and territories of the union.
Maharashtra has reported the highest number of 7,620 recoveries in a single day, followed by 4,808 in Kerala and 2,153 in West Bengal in a 24-hour span.
The ministry said 76.48 percent of the new cases are from 10 states and UT.
Kerala reports the highest number of 6,169 new daily cases, followed by Maharashtra and West Bengal with 3,913 and 1,628 infections respectively.
The number of fatal cases reported within 24 hours is 312.
Ten states and UT account for 79.81 percent of the new deaths. Maharashtra saw the most casualties (93). West Bengal and Kerala reported 34 and 22 new deaths, respectively.
Daily deaths in India are steadily declining. The daily death count has remained below 400 for 12 days, the ministry said in a statement.
