TIMESVIEW

Cricket was an Olympic sport in 1900. Great Britain claimed gold; France took the silver. There was no third nation. Since then, the game has grown. Now, with T20, we have a truly global sport. The BCCI’s stance in supporting ICC’s decision to include the game in the 2028 Olympics (after some clarification from the IOC) deserves a thumbs up. It is time for the game to become part of the largest sporting event in the world. That India has a decent chance at a medal, maybe even gold, is a bonus.

Domestic cricket
Members are of the opinion that BCCI should go ahead with the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament as planned, see how it goes, and then make a decision on whether a restricted red ball tournament (Ranji Trophy) is a possibility towards the end. it’s from the season. Given the surge in Covid numbers and the UK tension that has now become a topic of conversation, members believe it is important to make a very cautious decision about any national cricket going forward.
GC President, VP, ICA representative appointed
IPL GC incumbent president Brijesh Patel was re-elected as president, while former IPL GC president Rajiv Shukla returned to the fold after being elected vice president. Pragyan Ojha, a former left-arm player from India, was appointed representative of the Indian Cricket Players Association.

Committees to be decided soon
The various cricket committees and the standing committee awaiting appointment will be discussed “informally” by the members in the interim period and appointed “as soon as possible.”
ICC Tax Matters
With the ICC’s deadline on matters related to tax exemptions before the T20 World Cup in India ending on December 31, the BCCI has decided to wait and listen to the governing body. Payments to Cricketers – Cricket or No Cricket, the Board had decided to pay all national cricketers their share of the season fees. “Which cricketers to pay” was the decision that was made considering that the teams have not been selected for the 2020-21 year.
Members will deliberate further on this and finalize payment schedules as soon as possible. The Board has decided to transfer payments directly to players rather than going through their respective state associations, which can be a complicated and time-consuming process.
