Staggered Classes, Teachers to Get COVID-19 Exam: Guidelines for Karnataka Government Schools

The Karnataka government on Wednesday issued a new set of guidelines to restart schools for classes 10 and 12. Guidelines to restart the Vidyagama scheme for classes 6 to 9 were also published. According to the guidelines, the school for Students in classes 10 and 12 will begin on January 1 and for Class 11, it will begin on January 15. The Vidyagama scheme for students in Classes 6-9 will begin on January 1 and for Classes 1-5, it will begin on January 15. Parents will have the option of sending students to school beginning on these dates.

The decision to reopen schools will be reviewed on December 28 and 29 after the appearance of the new strain of the virus. Teachers will need to obtain a negative COVID-19 test certificate before returning to teach in schools.

The guidelines established that classes will be taught in two shifts: from 10 a.m. M. At 12.30 p. M. And of 2 p. M. At 4 p. M., On alternate days, for the Vidyagama scheme students. Regular classes for Class 10 students will be held every day from 10 am to 12:30 pm. School authorities are free to change the schedule to suit their demands.

The guidelines also specified the strict implementation of the COVID-19 distancing rules and the adoption of the methods used during exams in schools this year. If any student or teacher shows symptoms of COVID-19, they will be isolated in a school room and the district health authorities will be notified immediately.

Teachers over 50 must wear a face shield in addition to a mask. Students and teachers will be encouraged to bring water from home to drink. Health Minister K. Sudhakar said that the main intention of the state government is to safeguard the interests of children and parents. “We are also planning to have another round of serosurveillance surveys, in order to know the trend and prevalence of the pandemic in the state,” he said.

Undergraduate and engineering colleges in the state reopened on November 17, while medical and paramedical colleges reopened on December 1 after being closed for nearly nine months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public school students in the state have had no online education unlike their private school counterparts. The Vidyagama scheme started at the beginning of the year was halted in October after reports of COVID-19 cases.
