Hyderabad: A 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly brutally murdered by her boyfriend in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district on Tuesday.
The victim, Snehalatha, was a contract employee at the Dharmavaram branch of the State Bank of India. He went to the office in the morning but did not come home at night. When her parents found her phone turned off, they filed a complaint at the Anantapur One Town Police Station. His body was found in Bandannapally of Dharmavaram Mandal on Wednesday morning.
Snehalatha’s parents charged a man identified as Rajesh and his friend Karthik with the murder. They said that Rajesh had been harassing their daughter on the pretext of love and they had complained to the police about it.
According to the police, Rajesh forcibly took Snehalatha to a field near Badannapalli in his two-wheeler at 6.45am and killed her by slitting her throat. To hide his identity, he burned the bank papers he was carrying and put them on the body, so that his body was partially burned. No evidence of sexual assault was found, police said.
After committing the crime, he allegedly went home and started drinking alcohol with his friend Karthik.
The police have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation.
In another shocking incident in the Jagitial district of Telangana, a woman was attacked with acid by an unknown person. The incident took place in Thimmappur thanda in Ibrahimpatnam Mandal.
According to the police, Bhukya Swati from Thimmappur Thanda married Ravi from Dabba village five years ago. Ravi died six months ago. Swati had recently visited Thimmapur to attend an event and then went to Mettapalli for work on Wednesday morning. On the way home, three unidentified people wearing helmets spilled acid in his face and fled the scene. The right side of his face was severely burned in the attack.
The locals rushed to help her and booked her into Metpally Government Hospital. Police said the case is being registered and investigated according to the victim’s complaint.
