The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has tried to contact Bengali folk singer Basudeb Das Baul, days after he received Union Interior Minister Amit Shah for lunch at his Bolpur home.
In a twist, the Baul singer said Wednesday that the BJP did not help him in any way and that the interior minister also did not speak to him after Sunday lunch. Das had even sung some popular songs for Shah.
The artist’s latest comments come after a meeting with TMC Birbhum district chief Anubrata Mondal at a party office Tuesday night. Das said he would perform at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s rally in Bolpur on December 29.
“Amit Shah came to my house, had lunch and left. I didn’t get a chance to speak to him. They did not extend a helping hand to me. No one kept in touch with me after Shah’s visit. I thought about asking the Interior Minister to help my daughter with higher education, ”the singer told reporters.
Mondal said TMC’s education cell would help Basudeb Das Baul’s daughter complete higher education. “Amit Shah came to your house to do a drama. He wasn’t serious about her well-being. We have decided to bear all the expenses for her daughter’s studies, “added the TMC leader.
The BJP responded to the TMC, saying that it did not take care of the singer’s family for 10 years, and performed after the minister’s visit. “For 10 years, the TMC did not have time to take care of this family. Now, after Amit Shah visited their home, the TMC decided to help them. So it means that the BJP is at the forefront in identifying the families that need help, ”said BJP National Secretary Anupam Hazra.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was eager to address the Visva-Bharati University centennial celebrations on Thursday.
