Delhi is ready for vaccination, Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Thursday after chairing a meeting with Union Health Minister Dr. Harash Vardhan. There are around 51 lakh people, including frontline and healthcare workers, who will be vaccinated in the first phase of the vaccination campaign, he also said. “The process of identifying all these people is almost complete”, Kejriwal
“There is a total of 51 lakhs from priority category people in Delhi: three lakh from health workers, six lakh from frontline workers and 42 lakh from those over 50 and under 50, but who have comorbidities.” said the prime minister at a virtual press conference.
In the first phase, each person will receive two doses. A total of 1.02 crore doses will be required in the first phase of vaccination in Delhi, it also reported.
Currently, there is a storage capacity for 74 lakh doses. It will expand to 1.15 million rupees in a week, he also said.
Every person in priority categories is being registered to receive the vaccine. They will be informed via SMS and other means when their vaccination turn comes, the prime minister said.
This comes as state governments across the country are preparing to inoculate people once vaccines for Covid-19 gain proper approval from the regulatory body. So far, the Pfizer vaccine developed by the American company and its German partner BioNTech and another candidate developed by Moderna have applied for emergency authorization from the Central Drug Control Organization (CDSCO).
The Serum Institute of India (SII), which manufactures and tests the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine in India, has also submitted its application for an emergency use license.
As of Wednesday night, the city has 6,19,618 total cases of Covid-19 infections. Total recoveries are 6.01,268. While the death toll from the virus is 10,347.
