The creator of the world’s first approved coronavirus vaccine has warned that he believes the deadly coronavirus can survive for several years.

The lead scientist behind Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine, Ugur Sahin, said “the virus will stay with us for the next 10 years.”

“We need to get used to the fact that there will be more outbreaks,” he added.

When asked when he thought the world could return to normal, Sahin replied, “We need a new definition of ‘normal.’

Sahin went on to say that a “new normal” would not mean that countries would have to close their doors and that such a scenario could be possible “by the end of the summer.”

Ugur Sahin, CEO of Germany’s BioNTech, partnered with the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and it took less than a year to get a vaccine approved.

Sahin also called for caution about whether the 60-70% of the world’s population that gets vaccinated would be enough to prevent new outbreaks.
