A petition was filed in the Superior Court after the police officer failed to comply with the procedure.
The Karnataka High Court ordered a Kalaburagi district police officer to clear the road in front of his police station for a week for failing to address a complaint from a mother whose son was abducted. A bench in the division of Judge Sunil Dutt Yadav and Judge P Krishna Bhat was listening to a petition filed by Tarabai, a resident of the district. The petition stated that the police did not follow the procedure when they arrived at the Station Bazar police station in Kalaburagi with a complaint. She told police at the station that her son Suresh was abducted and not found.
“If the facts that were revealed to him constituted a crime committed within the limits of his police station, then he should have proceeded to the investigation of the case and if the crime reported took place outside his jurisdiction, then he was obliged to transfer the FIR to the jurisdictional police station to deepen the investigation of the case ”, indicated the judge.
The court declared that the mandate of the law was ignored and that the woman’s complaint was not recorded in the newspaper kept at the station. No FIR was recorded in the case. After this, the police station officer promised to clean the street in front of the police station for a week. The court accepted their commitment and also said that the Kalaburagi district police officers will receive an orientation course on “zero FIR”.
“We order the Kalaburagi District Police Superintendent to conduct an orientation workshop / course for all police officers working in the Kalaburagi District on the issue of ‘Zero FIR,” the bank stated.
Since Suresh, who was missing, was later brought to court, the court said the matter will be closed after the police officer serves his punishment.
