The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) plan was launched by PM Modi in 2019. PM-KISAN scheme only for small and marginal farming families?
At the beginning, when the PM-KISAN Plan was launched (February 2019), its benefits were only eligible for small and marginal farming families, with a combined land tenure of up to 2 hectares. The Plan was later revised in June 2019 and extended to all farm families regardless of the size of their properties.
The Central Government had notified the decision to extend the Rs 6,000 per annum benefit under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme to all Rs 14.5 million farmers in the country, regardless of the size of their property.
Who is excluded from the PM-KISAN program?
Those excluded from PM-KISAN include institutional landowners, farm families holding constitutional positions, civil servants and employees in service or retirees of the state or central government, as well as public sector companies and autonomous government agencies. Professionals such as doctors, engineers and lawyers, as well as retirees with a monthly pension of more than Rs 10,000 and those who paid income taxes in the last year of assessment are also not eligible for benefits.
