AUSTRALIA TOUR OF INDIA, 2020-21
During the 2018 tour, one of the reasons for India’s success in the first test series victory at Down Under was Cheteshwar Pujara’s ability to crush Australian bowlers. In all four tests, Mitchell Starc threw 138.5 overs, Josh Hazlewood sent 152.1 and Pat Cummins had to run for 145 overs. So it came as no surprise when Nathan Lyon, who himself threw 242.1 overs, revealed that his pre-series focus was primarily on No. 3 from India.
In the inaugural test in Adelaide of this series, Pujara fought for 160 deliveries of his 43 before losing to Lyon. Pujara will now return to MCG, where he made 106 of 319 to prepare for the victory of India. Lyon, however, is not overly concerned even if Pujara enters long term. “Pujara is a world-class hitter and he will be a great challenge for us for the rest of the series,” Lyon said.
“We talked about him in depth before the series started, it was nice to see a couple of plans go ahead in Adelaide, but we have a couple more things up our sleeves hopefully that if he comes in we can make it. To deploy. He’s a world class hitter, so it’s always fun to challenge yourself against the best players in the world and Pujara is definitely one of those guys. ”
One of Pujara’s tactics is to get down on the track and blunt Lyon’s deliveries. The steering wheel revealed that he has worked on his pace to make it difficult to run towards him. “I think I’ve been trying to work on that for many years with John Davison, who is the guy I turn to a lot about my bowling game,” he said. “I think it really depends on who you’re bowling for and the conditions, so I think in the last four or five years my pace has probably increased a couple of kilometers.
“But I think it’s more about the form that you can generate with the ball, if I’m honest. I think that’s the most crucial thing: you can throw at any pace, but if you can have that form on the ball, that’s going to be. The most dangerous is something that I have been working on for a few years and I hope to continue improving with it.
“I think it’s about getting the right pace for the conditions, but it’s also about looking for little clues. I can’t really reveal them, but I know there are a few different guys who have different techniques when they go down so they actually have different triggers. So, as a bowler, you’re always on the lookout for these little triggers that, hopefully, you can take one step ahead.
“So there’s something I’ve noticed in a couple of guys that change a bit when they want to go down the wicket, so it’s all part of the bowling turn, you have to try to take note of these little things and make sure you throw your better ball whatever happens “.
India’s ploy could well be to attack roulette with Hazlewood and Cummins being relentless from the other end. Lyon stressed that he is ready for the challenge. “India will probably look to try to attack me again, especially when you look at the quality of the fast bowlers we have here on the Australian side,” he noted. ”
“So I think one of his tactics is to attack me, which is totally fine, I’m pretty used to guys coming after me, but for me it’s about being able to know when to attack and when to defend. Well and I realize that who am I bowling with on the other end and with that association. So it’s all fun and part of playing cricket, especially being a little spinning bowler. attacking you. ”
